How did Bentley help you get to where you are today in your career?
Bentley has great connections with employers. Such wonderful relationship between school and the industry helped to advance my career a lot! The Graduate Career Center at Bentley reaches out to alumni who work in different industries and brings them to campus. There are opportunities all the time such as the Bentley Business Bowl and case competitions, which is a really good way to connect and expand your professional and personal networks. Advisers are really helpful and know what's going on in the marketplace and there are numerous resources such as a career portal with internship and full-time opportunities. Having access to all these things helped me get where I am today.
What are the top three skills you gained in your program at Bentley?
- Communication skills. We were able to practice communication throughout our courses. The courses aren't just about the technical aspects of IT. For example, Professor Schiano creates a very participatory classroom where we would discuss particular issues in the field and debate. I could practice my communication skills in the classroom but also through the constant communication with my peers and my professors.
- Technical skills. For me personally, I developed a great foundation of technical skills including learning Java. Though I may not use the exact technical language we learned at my work, I understand the logic which means I can learn new languages more easily in the workplace.
- Networking skills. Bentley gave me the opportunity to practice my networking skills and gave me the chance to work with classmates, employers, staff and faculty.
"I learned how to make technology work for business."
What would you tell someone considering your program at Bentley?
I truly have gained so much joy, experience, and knowledge from this program. Not to mention the invaluable friendships! I strongly recommend that future incoming students to be prepared, know what you want to gain from the program so you can be intentional in the courses that you take, and make the most of all the opportunities available. Someone else isn’t going to tell you or make you do it but in the long run it will pay off.
